Goal: Support children in connecting external behaviours to internal emotional states.
Materials Needed:
Large printable body outline or “emotion silhouette”
Coloured pencils or markers
Blank journal space or sticky notes
Instructions:
Ask the child to think of a recent moment they felt something big (anger, anxiety, etc.).
Use colours to draw where in their body they felt it (e.g., tight chest, shaky legs).
On the side, help them write 2–3 thoughts or feelings they had at the time.
Add sticky notes for coping ideas for each emotion area.
Discussion Prompts:
“What do these body clues tell you about how you’re feeling?”
“What helps calm each area?”
“Have you noticed these feelings before?”
Optional Add-ons:
Keep the body outline as part of their therapy folder and revisit it over time.
Include guided breathing exercises or grounding techniques.
